The City of Savannah is located very near the Georgia coastline and as such the Chatham County government wanted to ensure their data center would be protected in the event of a hurricane or tropical storm. This project was interesting in that it involved the installation of an APC ISX solution inside a completely water and wind tight enclosure. The enclosure was built on the 3rd floor of an existing facility and is completely impermeable to water and wind. The APC ISX solution that was installed included an APC Symmetra PX 100kW UPS unit and APC In-Row RC Cooling Units located inside of the water tight enclosure. The building structure required that both the UPS unit and In Row cooling units had to be brought in via forklift and a removed window on the 3rd floor of the facility. The APC In Row cooling units were tied to two (2) Carrier Aqua Snap chillers located on the roof above the data center enclosure. The project also involved the installation of a new FM200 Fire Protection system to protect the data center environment. The project was completed on schedule to the owner’s satisfaction.
